Community Linx ran an employability and team building 2 day course last week offering residents the chance to have a greater understanding of what employers are looking for.
The course contents included:
- What makes you employable
- CV & Cover letters
- Job searching
- Perfect matching (job description vs. you)
- Application Forms
- ID and references?
- Interview skills
- JCP – Friend or Foe?
- Team Building skills
On the second day we went off site for the day while enjoying some of the sunshine at Bridlington we split into teams to play volleyball and cricket. In the afternoon we all went to Hull Raceways Go Karting track for some more team building where everyone became very competitive. Teams had to come up with good strategy for pit stops and keep a close eye on the lap times to ensure they where not falling behind the leaders.
It was a fantastic couple of days with residents fully involved and they all left feeling very happy and a bit tired I am sure.

William Booth House is now in the process of preparing for its Christmas activities. With 113 residents the Centre makes sure that everyone of them receive gifts on Christmas day (some of which have been donated by various Salvation Army Churches). Activites range from special Film nights, quizzes, games, competitions and Carol Singing. This year the Deputy Lord Mayor will be attending our Carol Service on Thursday 18 December. A Church worship group will be coming to sing to us also.
This year has been a good year. At the end of last year The Hull City Council awarded us with a 4 year Contract to fund our support staff to work with our residents. Tremendous support has been given to the 113 residents by our support workers and outside addiction agencies etc.
We have opened a new Training Centre here funded by a consortium called Community Linx and many of our residents have gained qualifications in numeracy, literacy and computer skills. So we also look forward to giving more of our residents the opportunity to learn new skills and gain more confidence and self esteem.
We take this opportunity of wishing you a very Happy Christmas and Blessed New Year.
It is my great pleasure to announce the new website is finally here!
It’s got all the same useful information you have come to expect from our website, but now we’ve had a bit of a facelift and we’ve got a system that should allow us to do more regular updates.
